Great Granddaughter
of Rev. E.J. Homme visiting Wittenberg:
Madeline Homme Phipps, a great granddaughter of
Rev. E.J. Homme and her husband, Kenneth, visited
Wittenberg on August 11th and did they ever find a treat
in store for them. They arrived here at Homme Home
at 8:00 am. They toured the facility and were in
awe as to what they saw and the people they met.
They were thrilled to know that Homme is alive and well
as Madeline stated afterward. Both she and Ken
felt that Homme Home was so very clean and inviting and
that the residents were being well taken care
of and that the staff were so loving and caring
towards the residents. We then visited the Homme
Cemetery and Redeemer Lutheran Church. They
also visited the Wittenberg Historical Society building
and Dave Jacobson was gracious enough to give them as
much history as he could which was a great deal.
After our visit with Dave we headed over to the Homme
Youth and Family Services facility where Doreen Korbisch
greeted us and took us on a tour of their facility
as well. We held an open house for them in the
afternoon in the Bethany Chapel at Homme and everyone
was invited to come and meet them. They were
overwhelmed and grateful for what they saw and all the
wonderful people they met. Madeline and Ken also
participated in the 14th Annual Golf Outing put on by
Homme Home Foundaton. It was a great time having
them here and to be able to show them that Rev. E.J.
Homme's dream continues to live on to this very
day. If there is anyone that has ties to Rev. E.J.
Homme, we hope that you will contact us and come for a
visit. It will be something you will remember
forever. You can contact Jan at 715-253-2125, ext.
152 or e-mail Jan at janh@homme.org

HOMME HOME
AUXILIARY QUILTS: Quilts and
quilting have been a part of Homme Home of Wittenberg
throughout its history. The art of quilting was
taught to the young girls who lived at Homme Old Folks
and Orphans home by the elderly women who shared that
home as well. The quilts kept Homme residents warm
on those cold winter nights.
Later in its history, Homme
volunteers made quilts to sell in order to raise money
for various projects at Homme Home. Quilts were
made and sent all over the country including furnishing
a Bed and Breakfast home out east. Unused quilt
fabric that is not used by the Homme Auxiliary is
sent to area churches to be used in making quilts for
Lutheran World Relief.
Today, the Homme Auxiliary
heads up the quilt making department. The Homme
quilts are still in demand as the volunteers tie a quilt
a week which often are sold even before they are
finished and put on display. In addition to queen
size quilts, Homme Auxiliary volunteers also do full
size and/or twin size quilts. Baby and crib size
quilts are also made in a variety of prints and
styles. The proceeds from the quilt sales continue
to support resident centered programs at Homme Home of
Wittenberg and Forest Park Village.
There is a new "twist" to
quilting for the summer. Many have asked about
"summer quilts" and due to a great response, Homme
Auxiliary is now offering summer quilts. They are
lighter than the regular quilts. So come check it
out! They are on display in the front lobby here
at Homme Home.
If you would like more
information on the Homme Auxiliary quilt project or
would like to order a quilt, please contact Arlene Hanus
at arleneh@homme.org or
call 1-888-215-5036 or you can also call Fay Rosenow,
Auxiliary Board Member, at 715-793-4665.
Community Health
& Wellness Fair: The 2nd Annual
Health and Wellness Fair has come and gone. There were many, many
participants and and the people in the community and
surrounding ares came and saw and had a nice picnic
lunch put on by the Homme Auxiliary. It was once
again a tremendous success and with more vendors here
than last year and more people attending than last
year. If you have not made it to either one at
this time, please consider coming next year to the 3rd
Annual Health and Wellness Fair. Details will be
forthcoming next spring. Watch for details or if
you would like to contact someone with questions or
comments, please contact Arlene at 715-253-2125, ext.

14th Annual Homme
Home Foundation Golf Outing: The day was beautiful and the
fellowship was grand. We had 160 golfers signed
up; the most ever. We had a great lunch for
everyone and a great dinner. Many, many prizes
were awarded and everyone was in awe as to all the gifts
they received. The West and East Chapters of
Shawano for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans were on
board to help with matching funds. Our corporate
sponsors and donors were awesome in what they did for
Homme Home. It is really very rewarding to know
that so many people are willing to participate and help
support the cause. We want to thank the golfers
and nongolfers for being there and to the nongolfers for
helping with the event behind the scenes. It
helped us greatly. Also we would like to applaud
the Golf Committee who worked relentlessly to make this
outing such a success. Thank you to eveyone who
was a part of this event and made it the best yet.
Our 15th Annual Golf Outing will be held on August 13th
next year and will again be held at the Indianhead Golf
Course where we have gotten the best treatment from Eric
and his staff. They were on board to help us
throughout the day as well. See you all next
year!!! |
